Andrew Greenwood’s Blog – The Motor Show at Harewood House – Update 3

This year Classic Shows has introduced two brand new events into an already packed summer programme of classic vehicle shows.  The first one of these was held last Sunday the 18th June at Clumber Park near Worksop in Notts.  The Fathers Day Classic Car & Motorcycle Show turned out to be the biggest and best first time event in the 32 year history of Classic Shows attracting over 700 display vehicles and close to 10,000 visitors through the gates throughout the day.  We were simply bowled over by the response of exhibitors and visitors alike to this new show in such a stunning setting.

Our second new event of the summer will take place at Harewood House near Leeds on Sunday 2nd July and is already shaping up to supersede the success of the Clumber Park event.  With the addition of 15 cars from the Celica Club UK we have now exceeded the 500 display vehicle target we set ourselves for this first event.   All our free tickets for enthusiasts have therefore been allocated but are we still inviting exhibitor entries at a heavily discounted cost of just £7.50 per vehicle (providing entry to 2 adults and 2 children).  If you don’t have a classic and still wish to visit the show admission tickets are available to purchase via our website www.classicshows.org  or you can simply pay on the gate on arrival.  If you wish to trade with us we have sites to suit all budgets so give us a call in the office on 01484 667776 and ask for Matthew.

At Clumber we had representation from the Stoneacre Group from Mansfield who brought along new models from Fiat, Nissan and Mazda and had an excellent response. At The Motor Show at Harewood House Clive Brook Volvo will be bringing the new Volvo XC60 along with several other vehicles in the Volvo range and we are confident that they will receive a similar response from the public.  Needless to say we can always find room for other local car dealers who wish to bring along some of their new models to show off to the public.

At the very heart of The Motor show at Harewood House will be the arena where we will be running an all day commentary and judging the cars in the various sections throughout the day.  Integral to this are husband and wife team Richard & Christine Lee who are Regional Officers, International Concours Judges and Official Vehicle Valuers for The Mercedes-Benz-Club UK. They coordinate and present events which include road runs, field and static displays throughout the Yorkshire West region. We first met Richard over a quarter of a century ago when he campaigned his  1955 series two 4-door Morris Minor saloon which is one of the very last batch to be produced with a divided front windscreen and vintage size rear screen. Over the years, the vehicle has been the main feature in many motoring magazines along with cameo appearances in TV programmes such as Heartbeat, where she arrived in Pickering high street with her occupants alighting garbed in sixties style clothes, channel four’s motoring classic’s and channel five’s how to buy into a classic cars.

Richard will be on the microphone throughout the day and Christine will be judging the cars in the various sections as they arrive into the arena so we are all in for an informative and entertaining day.
